The service

Wayside is a self-guided audio tour for driving in Iceland, provided by the company that runs Wayside. Stories play by themselves as you pass the places they are about, and the app suggests directions between the main sights.

Drive safely: you are responsible for driving

• Always follow Icelandic traffic law, road signs and road closures. Check road conditions at umferdin.is and the weather at vedur.is before you set off.
• Directions in the app are suggestions only. They may be out of date, and they do not know about closures, weather or road conditions. If they differ from road signs or closures, follow the signs.
• The driver should not read the screen or touch the app while driving. Set it up before you leave, and leave reading to a passenger.
• Never stop on the road to take photos. Use marked parking areas.
• Content about places, history and nature is for entertainment and general information. It is not safety advice for hiking, hot springs or glaciers.

Free and paid guides

• The Golden Circle guide is free.
• Other guides are bought one at a time, for a one-off price shown before you pay. A bought guide stays on your account; sign in on another phone to use it there.
• Access codes from partners (for example a car rental company) unlock guides for the period shown when you enter the code.
• Prices are in Icelandic krónur and include VAT.

Payment and refunds

Payments are processed by Stripe. A guide is digital content that you can use straight away. When you buy, you ask us to make it available immediately and accept that your 14-day right of withdrawal ends once it has been made available. This does not affect your rights if a guide does not work as described. Then write to us and we will fix it or refund you.

Using the app

• The guides are for your own personal use. Please do not copy, record, resell or share the audio or texts.
• The app needs GPS and a screen that stays on while you drive. Downloaded guides work without data. Directions need a data connection.
• We work hard to keep the app running, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect loss, or for loss caused by how a vehicle is driven, by weather or road conditions, or by following directions in the app. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Icelandic law. If you live in the EU or EEA, you also keep the protection of the consumer law where you live. You can also use the EU online dispute resolution platform.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. A change will not affect a guide you have already bought.
